Wedding tent arson: Jealous wife gets death

Kuwait’s supreme court on has upheld a woman’s death sentence for setting ablaze her husband’s wedding tent, killing 57 women and children in August 2009.

Nasra Yussef Mohammed Al Enezi, 24, had been sentenced to death by a lower and appeals courts for the apparent act of revenge against her husband for taking a second wife.

Her husband first reaction to the court sentence was :"Let her go to hell," according to the Kuwaiti papers.

"This is a 100 per cent fair verdict. Once she is executed, I will again go to the families of all the victims and offer condolence."

"I can sleep with a clear conscience from now on as I had been afraid that the court might not sentence her to death," her husband, Zayed Dafiri said.

Nasra was not present at court when the verdict was issued. Death sentences in Kuwait are usually carried out by hanging but must first be ratified by the Emir.

According to local media reports of the arson attack, Nasra had wanted to avenge her husband's 'bad treatment' to her.

However, in court initially denied any involvement in the incident later confessed to starting the fire.
